Story bus - Toftwood

On Friday 14th March, excitement was in the air at Toftwood Infant School as the Konectbus Story Bus rolled up, ready to whisk 74 wide-eyed Reception children - and their teachers - away on an unforgettable adventure.

The children, aged 4 and 5, were buzzing with excitement as they gathered outside, many of them about to step onto a bus for the very first time. Awaiting them was a bright double-decker bus, along with friendly Bus Driver Rob and the enthusiastic Konectbus team, who greeted each child with a special Story Bus ticket - a golden pass to a world of imagination.

Once everyone was settled in their seats, the fun began! The team read aloud from The One Hundred Decker Bus, bringing the story to life while sharing the colourful illustrations. The children were encouraged to peer out of the windows and imagine what they might spot from the top deck of a bus - a chance to let their imaginations run wild.

Next came an energetic round of bus bingo! The young passengers kept their eyes peeled as the bus set off, hoping to spot a wheelie bin, a dog, and a green car. Giggles and cheers filled the bus as each sighting was ticked off the bingo card.

With Driver Rob at the wheel, the Story Bus wound its way through Dereham and Toftwood. The children squealed with excitement when they recognised familiar sights - from their own houses to local landmarks. One child beamed, saying, "I liked looking for the green cars!" while another proudly announced, "I saw the road where my mummy takes me to my house!"

Children with their Story Bus tickets

The journey continued to Dereham Marketplace before heading back to school. But the fun wasn’t over yet! The children quizzed Driver Rob with burning questions: “What’s it like being a bus driver?”, “What’s your favourite route?” - and one particularly curious child even asked, “When did the first bus start?”

To top off the day, each child left the bus with a goody bag packed with activities and treats to take home, ensuring the magic of the Story Bus adventure could continue long after the bus doors closed.

It was a day filled with stories, smiles, and a little bit of bus-themed bingo magic - one that the children (and teachers!) won’t forget in a hurry.
