Generation Go Workshops at Fakenham Academy
3 weeks ago

On Thursday, 27th March, we had a fantastic day delivering five Generation Go workshops for Year 9 students at Fakenham Academy!
Around 150 students took part, ranging from regular bus users to those who had never stepped onto one before. Our goal? To help every student feel confident, independent, and ready to navigate public transport with ease.
We kicked off by sharing essential tips on bus travel - how to plan ahead, stay safe, and be respectful on board. Then, we dived into hands-on activities where students used our journey planning tools to map out real-world trips. They worked through scenarios such as travelling from school to Norwich or Dereham, considering bus changes and return journeys - a big step up from just hopping on the next available bus at the weekend!
By planning for real-life situations, students stepped outside their comfort zones and developed valuable life skills. Planning transport for work placements and appointments is very different from a casual trip into town, and these workshops helped them prepare for those more structured journeys.

The best part? Every student who took part received a FREE Anywhere Day Ticket, giving them the chance to put their new skills into action! We can’t wait to hear about their first independent adventures.
We’re also thrilled to be returning to Fakenham Academy in June to run another workshop for Year 10 students ahead of their work placements.
What did the school think?
Mr Gray, Assistant Headteacher and Personal Development Lead, shared his thoughts:
"Students loved planning their own journeys, and some have already decided when they’ll use their free day pass for a shopping trip to Norwich! It’s a great way for them to build confidence and become less reliant on parents and carers."
A huge thank you to Fakenham Academy for having us - we had an amazing time and can’t wait to come back!
