Did you know that Norwich is known as one of the friendliest places in the UK. But almost half of us who live here have felt the effects of loneliness and social isolation or know someone who has.
Chatty Bus launched in Norwich on Friday 6th March 2020 bringing people together on our buses using conversation to build friendships and create communities. Our buses travelled alonged routes 5A, 5B and 5C to and from Norwich Castle Meadow and through surrounding villages on-route including Sprowston, Wroxham, Blofield Heath and Horning.
One in three people deliberately catch the bus to have some form of social interaction and two-thirds of bus users believe that the bus creates strong community ties.
Supported by volunteers from Aviva, Konectbus and Age UK, these Chatty Bus Champions boarded the buses at Castle Meadow and travelled on-board chatting away to passengers as they travelled across our county. Kinda Kafe located on Castle Meadow, supported the event and was also on-hand offering coffee and tea to all those who got involved.
Chatty Bus was launched in conjunction with The Norwich Together Alliance, founded to build a city full of connection, tackle the loneliness epidemic, and get the best from this place we call home.
BUT then it happened, Covid-19 swept across the UK and we all entered into lockdown. Our Chatty Bus plans were postponed and we moved online to launch Virtual Chatty Bus in conjunction with Age UK. We hope to bring Chatty Bus back to Norwich in the Spring 2021 but for now, we encourage you to sign up to Virtual Chatty Bus and help tackle social isolation and loneliness across Norwich -Together!
