Responsibilities
- To test vehicles and diagnose faults.
- Observe, recognise and report vehicle defects or symptoms of impending parts failure.
- Service, adjust and repair vehicles or parts using the necessary equipment and tools in a proper and safe manner.
- Inspect vehicles completely and report upon the conditions of roadworthiness and safety.
- Interpret and implement any manufacturers modifications.
- To carry out body repairs including paint spraying where appropriate.
- To prepare vehicles for MOT testing.
- Complete requisitions for replacement parts.
- Recognise repairs that need specialist skills and report to management the findings.
- Attend vehicle breakdowns and accidents for vehicles as required, even if nearing the end of the engineer’s shift.
- Keep abreast of technical developments.
- Where vehicles are defective make every effort to ensure that repair is completed and the vehicle is available for service at the earliest opportunity.
Skills/Experience/Qualifications
- A full manual driving licence giving entitlement to drive in the UK. A PCV licence is desirable although if the applicant does not have a PCV licence they must be willing to achieve this
- Relevant recognised engineering qualification including the IRTEC accreditation is preferred
- Previous experience of working with large passenger type vehicles would be an advantage alternatively experience working with commercial vehicles
- A flexible approach with respect of working hours and tasks undertaken
- Good communication and team working skills, able to work with others and build relationships
- Ability to work without close supervision, taking ownership and pride in your work.
